About the Coffee
Nestled along the edge of the East African Rift Valley at the foot of the Mbeya Range, Utengule Estate is one of Tanzania’s most historic coffee farms, with roots dating back to 1919. Grown in nutrient-dense volcanic soil and nourished by cool high-altitude nights, this lot showcases the incredible potential of Tanzanian natural-process Arabica.
Whole coffee cherries are hand-picked at peak ripeness and sun-dried on raised beds for several weeks. This careful, slow-drying natural process allows the sugars from the fruit to deeply penetrate the seed before hulling, creating a cup bursting with sweet fruitiness and complex character.
In the Cup
By taking this lot to a light roast, we preserve the delicate fruit acids and vibrant sweetness inherent to the bean. Look for bright top notes of ripe strawberry and red grape, balanced by a silky honeyed sweetness and a subtle, elevated winey finish.
It makes an exceptional, vibrant pour-over or immersion brew—clean, complex, and deeply sweet.
